Hundreds of tourists were stranded as commercial airlines suspended their flights due to the typhoon.
Asiana Airlines said some 200 passengers were scheduled to leave Saipan last Friday, but their flight remained “uncertain” on that day.
About 200 passengers were also expected to arrive on island from Seoul.
“We’re advised to stand by for any instruction. We’re waiting,” said an Asiana Airline staff on Friday.
Diamond Hotel said about 80 people were scheduled to depart for Japan on early Friday afternoon but their flight would be rescheduled.
The Hyatt Regency Hotel said its guests spent time in the shopping mall during the typhoon.
“They still went out despite the rains. They don’t want to spoil their day,” a Hyatt hotel staff said.
According to Commonwealth Ports Authority Executive Director Carlos H. Salas, all flights coming to and originating from the CNMI were suspended on Friday morning, but operations resumed Friday evening.
“During these times, individual airlines make their own decisions. They already know what to do. We still coordinate, however, to ensure aviation safety,” Salas said.
All airlines are now back to normal operations, he said.
