AN 82-year-old tourist was seriously injured after she fell between the ferry and the dock on Managaha.
Maki Oyama suffered a major laceration on her left lower extremities on Monday and was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center.
A CHC doctor recommended that Oyama should not leave Saipan for further evaluation on her condition.
Police said Oyama and her son were getting ready to board the ferry prior the acident. The son was behind Oyama supporting her to board the boat, which was swinging due to the rough water at the time.
When Oyama attempted to board, the ferry swung away from the dock, causing her to fall.
The son tried to help her out before the boat swung back but her lower left leg was caught between the ferry and the dock.
The boat captain immediately assisted the tourist and rushed her to Saipan, where an ambulance transported her to the hospital.
In other news, a garment worker was injured after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Middle Road in Gualo Rai on Monday night.
Zhou Cai Xia, 18, sustained a fractured right leg, abrasion on both legs, and laceration on the face. She was treated at CHC.
Police report stated that Zhou was crossing the highway from Mirage Garment toward Highway Market when a northbound vehicle traveling on the inner lane attempted to avoid her.
The vehicle encroached on the opposite lane, but still ended up striking Zhou. Police Officer 3 Anthony Macaranas determined that the cause of the crash was pedestrian error. Zhang did not use the crosswalk, he said.
