WENO (FSMIS/PINA) — Federated States of Micronesia President Leo Falcam is on a week-long boat trip to Chuuk’s outer islands as he continues to take the government to the FSM people.
The president and his Cabinet, along with officials from Chuuk state, are sailing on the FSS Caroline Voyager and FSS Micronesia.
Falcam stressed the importance of the visits, “especially for the citizens unable to visit the nation’s capital. We must take their government to see them and discuss issues of immediate relevance with them.”
The Federated States of Micronesia’s 600 plus islands are spread across an expanse of more than 1 million square miles of ocean.
With the exception of Kosrae, each of the four states is centered on one or more main high islands with numerous outer atolls. Some are accessible only by boat.
Chuuk State’s outer islands are broken up into the Mortlocks, the Halls, and the Western Island groups. These are small, low-lying coral atolls reachable by field trip ships and some by small plane.
Falcam has already visited Yap State and most of its outer atolls, and some of the outer islands of Chuuk.
