Borja, 49, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalism, and domestic violence: senior citizen physical abuse and/or mental cruelty.
Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan imposed a $5,000 cash bail on Borja.
At the bail hearing on Dec. 17, 2020, Borja was represented by the Public Defender’s Office, while Assistant Attorney General Samantha Vickery appeared for the government.
After the hearing, Borja was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to return to court on Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
According to the complaint and supporting affidavit of probable cause filed by the police, Borja’s wife confronted a senior citizen about the land he was giving away for free to a family member.
Borja took his wife’s side in the argument and started getting mad at the senior citizen, police said.
Borja started destroying the victim’s belongings in his garage, police added.
The victim told police that Borja also threw a toaster at him, “but he managed to stop it from hitting his body by putting up both his hands, which caused a small scratch…on his right hand’s middle finger.”
Court documents did not indicate the victim’s age.
