“The families of the military personnel can easily come and cleanse their minds on Rota,” he said.
Calvo wants to work with Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos in developing an eco-tourism program for the island.
Calvo believes that an improvement in Rota’s tourism industry now that the island’s voters have legalized casino gaming.
“I support the mayor’s program on eco-tourism,” he said.
Among the tourist attractions on island are the Wedding Cake Mountain, the pristine beaches and an abundant marine resources, Calvo said.
“Our beaches are the last bastions of Rota — we need to maintain and preserve our island’s unspoiled natural beauty,” he added.
The mayor’s office and the Marianas Visitors Authority are working together to help promote the island as a tourist destination, Calvo said.
