Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said that as of yesterday afternoon, Calvo had not been arrested yet.
“The police are still conducting a search for him,” she said.
The Superior Court issued a warrant of arrest for the Saipan Rotary Club president on Friday on charges that he sexually abused a minor girl.
Ogumoro said Calvo, who is running for the CNMI’s congressional delegate seat, is facing charges of sexual assault in the second degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, and disturbing the peace.
Police are asking members of the community to provide any information regarding Calvo’s whereabouts by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Division at 664-9042/45/9050 or Crime Stoppers at 234-7272, if they wish to remain anonymous.
Calvo is the owner of Calvo’s Nursery and Landscaping and the Island Farmers Market.
Calvo was earlier charged with two separate cases of sexual abuse of a child in 2000 for abusing two sisters. He was tried in November 2005 for the other case involving the younger sister.
The Superior Court jury acquitted him of the charge on Nov. 8, 2005.
The jury trial for the other case was supposed to start on Dec. 5, 2005 but it was reset until the government moved for its dismissal.
