$800K will be reprogrammed for NMC

“We’re able to get $800,000 commitment from the governor and we’re waiting for the drawdown of the funds so we can start immediately the projects,” NMC President Carmen Fernandez said on Friday.

The money will come from the federally funded Kagman wastewater project.

According to Fernandez, five buildings on the As Terlaje campus need immediate renovations and repairs and were among the serious concerns raised by the accrediting commission.

“We need to change the roofs, complete the electrical repairs, restrooms renovations, and fix  our sidewalks,” she said.

NMC declared itself in a “state of exigency” to allow for the modification or suspension of certain policies while the college tries to retain its accreditation.

These may include, but not limited, to the reprogramming of funds in excess of board-approved amounts to accomplish accreditation-related goals; the acceleration and modification of institutionally established timetables for personnel evaluations or other human resource actions; any policies that may detract or interfere with the expedited process of responding to and implementing the recommendations of the accrediting commission; all policies that need to be modified or suspended temporarily; and other actions that must be  implemented at the college.
