Matthew Cohen, of Trackmasters International Limited said the markings along the track have to be updated to meet the current rules of the International Association of Athletic Federations.
Trackmasters International was contracted by the IAAF to survey and update the track and field facility for the certification which is necessary for any world class event like the one sanctioned by the Oceania Athletic Association.
Cohen said rules with regards to the markings changes every after few years.
In the old rules for the relay zones for example, the toes of the athletes can rest towards the trailing edge of the 50-millimeter marking while getting ready for action.
Now for the IAAF 2008 rules, athletes should put their toes before the leading edge of the marking.
Cohen who prepared the track for the South East Asian Games in Thailand and Asian Games in Doha arrived from Phuket two days to do whatever is needed to be done along the track at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Cohen expects to finish the job in a couple of days and will make a 40-page report on which the IAAF technical officers will base its certification of the facility.
He said the high way area of the track has to be reinforced.
There is a part of the track where 100-meter runs starts has a portion that the all-weather rubber is peeling off. That did not escape the eyes of Cohen.
Sports and Recreation Committee Director Joe Lizama said they are now fixing it.
He said it is very good for the community hat the track and field is now being upgraded. Whatever changes in the markings or rules it bears, he said “we have to follow that.”
