Connecting road to Ngerikiil opened

The road which was financed through a Taiwanese grant cost over $10 million and connects Koror to the Compact Road section leading to the Capitol.Taiwan Ambassador Matthew Lee and President Remengesau led the ribbon cutting ceremony last June 13.“This particular project is very special to me. I am extremely proud to say this connecting road is able to contribute to the completion of the Compact Road, allowing to travel to and from Babeldaob a lot easier and ensuring the future economic development of Palau,” Lee said.Improvement of the road commenced on June 2006 and was undertaken by  Tao-Yuan  a construction company based in Taiwan.The road was completed May 31 . That part of the road was improved to make it more passable and cut travel time to the capitol.The improvement of the road also ensures that all sections on the way to the capitol will be paved. The road is at least 9 meters wide and was elevated to at least 76 centimeters from its original state.Lee said he has paid close attention to the completion of this road.The event was emceed by Brian Melairei, the Project Manager is CIP Engineer Gail Manalastas and Project Inspector was  Thomas Ngiraingilid.
