Olinka C. Chaudhry, the youth program coordinator of the Saipan mayor’s office, said they were supposed to get 20 students each year, but due to time constraints the recruitment of students was affected.
Their hosts in South Korea informed them of a change in the schedule of the program, she added.
Chaudhry said the 10 students left with their chaperones — Joe Tenorio, for the boys, and Marian DLG, Tudela, for the girls — and Mayor Juan B. Tudela.
The group left Saipan on Monday and is scheduled to return on Saturday, she said.
The participants are students from Tinian High School, Saipan Southern High School, Grace Christian Academy and Northern Marianas Academy.
They are Lance M. Camacho, Keno Iwa C. San Pablo, Patrick B. Diaz, Grace T. Borja, Meagan S. Flores, Keith F. Sablan, Samantha A’ani Birminghan-Babauta, Terrence Dlg Tudela, John T. Villagomez and Aesha de-Brum Sablan.
Chaudhry said the group will visit Daegu University, Wool-San Hyundai Car Manufacturing Company, YoungDuk City, YangPyung City JamShil Baseball Stadium, and the Korean Central Museum.
The group will also meet prominent officials like the mayor of YangPyung, will watch the Korean pro-baseball game, and tour to the famous cities of South Korea.
The annual event will allow CNMI students know more about the culture, traditions and history of Korea, Chaudhry said.
