Administration seeks funds for Aggreko deal

“It’s a difficult challenge,” he said. “It is difficult to come up with funds.”

CUC has not yet paid the $336,000 downpayment, he said, adding that the agency cannot pay the amount by itself.

He said CUC needs the assistance of the Legislature and the administration.

A funding source has yet to be identified and the administration will have to consult with the Finance Department, Reyes said.

“The administration is committed to finding the funds to pay for much needed power generation capacity to end the daily power outages. We will work with CUC and the Legislature to secure the funds,” he added.

Early this week, CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna announced that the agency signed a $6 million contract with Aggreko.

He said the contract allows for an extension of service of up to six months, which will require CUC to pay an additional $3 million to the power company.

The CUC-Aggreko deal states that the contractor “shall not commence provision of the services…before receipt of” $336,000 as deposit for the 10 megawatt power engines.
