Saipan Pacific Winds Concert Band to hold Christmas concert on Dec. 20

“Since March, most live performances have been cancelled or postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic all over the world,” band director Atsuko Eck said, adding they themselves had to cancel an event in April.

“Bringing live entertainment back to the island will show how well we are [doing] in handling this [pandemic],” she added. “We also want to give people another opportunity to enjoy [the] holiday season,” she added.

This will be the 27th year they will hold a Christmas concert, Eck said.

Su-san band, a homegrown ensemble group, will perform at the Saipan Pacific Winds Band Christmas Concert on Dec. 20.

Members of the Saipan Pacific Winds Concert Band will hold their 27th annual Christmas concert on Dec. 20 in the Royal Taga Ballroom of Saipan World Resort.

The 22 musicians who will perform on Dec. 20 will consist of people from various age groups — from middle school students to senior citizens.

The concert will also feature the Su-san band, a homegrown ensemble of five musicians from  Japan. They have played at the Paseo De Marianas on various occasions, and have performed during the Saipan Wind Band Festival, the Mount Carmel School band concert, and other community festivals.

In preparing for the concert, Eck said the band members  observe the social distancing rules. “We are using a classroom at MCS and we are following the same safety protocols for classrooms.”

She thanked Mount Carmel School for allowing the  band to use the school facility for practice.

Due to limited seating, Eck said those interested to watch the Dec. 20 concert must register online at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsxqGDNAUR9Qrh0G8BBoKA2tqHMcW1j06t-QZO4l4H6-BYLQ/viewform=
