“We need all the assistance that we can get… I sure hope that we can get more assistance,” he added.
“We need more resources. We are safe, and our [Covid-19] numbers are down…but I think that it’s important that [Washington] D.C. understands that we put all of our resources, in the very beginning, to safeguard our community and that we need to maintain our status,” he said.
“To save lives here and maintain our system that is working, we need additional resources,” the governor added.
The federal government provided $55 million to assist insular areas with their Covid-19 response through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES, Act.
The Commonwealth received $4.04 million while Guam, which now has over 6,000 Covid-19 cases, received $12 million.
The U.S. Virgin Islands received $7.85 million; American Samoa, $4 million; the Federated States of Micronesia, $7.73 million; the Republic of the Marshall Islands, $3.89 million; and the Republic of Palau, $1.59 million.
The CNMI has also received additional millions of dollars in emergency funds from the federal government.
