Customs intercepts ‘ice,’ other drugs at post office

Cocaine and LSD were among the other controlled substances that were imported via mail.

“Throughout the years we maintain collaboration with local and federal law enforcement agencies.  Through a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, we are able to coordinate resources to eliminate money laundering and the illicit importation, distribution, and possession of controlled substances,” Customs Director Jose C. Mafnas said.

Customs continues to seize marijuana as well as edibles and THC paraphernalia.  In January 2020, Customs seized over 2.12 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

“Our goal is to eradicate the use, sale and distribution of narcotics in the CNMI.  While we are a long way ahead, we can at least control what enters our island borders and reduce the street value crystal meth and other drugs,” Mafnas said.
