Vice speaker: Lack of rules prevents locals from getting government farm plots

Deleon Guerrero has authored House Bill 21-108 to authorize the Department of Lands and Natural Resources-Division of Agriculture to promulgate rules and regulations in managing Kagman commercial farm plots.

The measure is still with the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs, which, Variety was told, is trying to address the concerns of the Department of Public Lands.

Deleon Guerrero said H.B. 21-108 would authorize the Division of Agriculture to issue permits to local farmers; set up simple requirements as to who is eligible; and impose a fee.

Right now, he said, there are about 30 plots still available to anyone who wants to farm them, but Agriculture cannot issue permits due to the absence of rules.

He said H.B. 21-108 will address this problem.
