“We’ve served over over 10,000 meals,” he added.
Before the pandemic, Salvation Army usually served hot meals to the homeless and implemented a drive-thru program so individuals could pick up lunch boxes.
Gillespie said every Wednesday and Saturday the Salvation Army distributes food to an average of 50 individuals at the Garapan Fishing Base.

He said they only serve those who are not receiving food stamps from the Nutrition Assistance Program.
Through the generous support of Bank of Hawaii, which donated $10,000, and other local donors that include D&Q International Distributors, Great Harvest and anonymous supporters, Gillespie said the Salvation Army continues to distribute food during the ongoing crisis.
“We are very thankful to all of our donors and supporters,” he added.
Gillespie said it was Bank of Hawaii that provided the Salvation Army the initial funds for its feeding program in 2011.
“They’ve been a sustaining supporter ever since,” he added.
