Corrections Commissioner Anthony Torres, KKMP’s Gray Sword, House Floor Leader Edwin Propst and Vice Speaker Joel Camacho pose with volunteers in the multi-purpose center parking lot where they are accepting donations for Guam’s typhoon victims.
THE Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services, the CNMI Legislature and the Saipan Mayor’s Office will continue their relief drive for Guam in the multi-purpose center parking lot in Susupe through Tuesday next week.
A 40-foot container, once filled with supplies, will be shipped on Thursday or Friday, Corrections Commissioner Anthony Torres said Monday afternoon.
“A second 40-foot container came in today through the kind generosity of Charlie Hermosa of APL, and the goal is to have it shipped sometime next week Tuesday,” he added.
As for donations, “At this point, anything helps. If it’s more convenient for people to drop off cash or a check, we will document it, and put it together and give it to the governor’s office and we’ll purchase more water. From what we are hearing, from boots on the ground, people [on Guam] need water.”
He added, “We been here since Friday, and people are just dropping off supplies, I’m going to be here as much as I can, to accept donations and contributions for Guam.”
“This is the community coming together. Guam was battered, and this is us doing whatever we can to help them,” he said as he expressed appreciation to the business community, individuals, and non-profit organizations that have donated relief items.
