THE Commonwealth Zoning Board unanimously elected Henry S. Hofschneider as its new chairman; Michael Evangelista, the new vice chairman; and Pete Itibus, the secretary.
Also present in the organization meeting held on June 8, 2023, at the board’s new office in Chalan Laulau were board member Mike Demapan Jr. and Zoning Administrator Geri Dela Cruz.
The other board members — Cecilia Taitano and Shane Villanueva — were absent.
In an interview on Friday, Hofschneider said the board will soon announce a vacancy for the zoning administrator’s position.
Dela Cruz’s last day in office was on Friday, June 23, 2023.
Hofschneider said the board wants to open the opportunity to anyone to submit an application to the board which, he added, will select the most qualified applicant.
The Zoning Board will also conduct training for its staff on land use control and zoning regulation.
As the new officers of the board, Hofschneider said they will live up to the campaign promises of Gov. Arnold Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang who vowed to “ensure fairness in government contracting and hiring [and] restore the merit-based system of public employment….”
Hofschneider, who is also the special assistant to Lt. Governor Apatang, chaired the Zoning Board from Nov. 2006 to Sept. 2010.
