GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Friday nominated former Gov. Juan Nekai Babauta and licensed clinical social worker Phyllis Chong to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Board of Trustees.
If confirmed by the Senate, Babauta and Chong will fill the seats vacated by Edward “Tofila” Deleon Guerrero and Lauri Ogumoro whose terms expired earlier this year.
Palacios earlier nominated Mariah Barcinas to fill the seat of former board member Fermin Atalig of Rota that has been vacant for a year now.
The current board members are Polly Masga of Saipan and Corinne Santos of Tinian.
In separate appointment letters to Babauta and Chong, the governor said he and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident in their leadership to carry out the mandates of the Board of Trustees in governing and managing CHCC.
The governor and the lt. governor told Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero in separate letters that they are confident in the ability of Babauta and Chong to carry out the board’s mandates.
Babauta served as the first chief executive officer of CHCC, but his contract was terminated by the board in April 2013, two months before its expiration.
