Moments later, a police unit conducting routine patrol in the village was flagged down by an elderly male who told police that he had just called for police assistance for his neighbor.
Police made their way to an apartment unit and verified that the witnesses there were OK and unharmed. A witness stated that he and his girlfriend were asleep when they were awakened by a creaking noise. When they turned to look at their room’s window they noticed that it appeared to be opening slowly. The witness looked out the window and noticed a heavy built, dark complexioned male wearing orange shorts and a gray t-shirt running away from the window.
A few moments later the witness decided to take out the trash. As the witness was walking toward the trash bin, he noticed the same individual he saw earlier, walking back to the witness’ apartment. As soon as the suspect was close enough to see the witness’ face, he fled toward a neighboring unit. The witness then called for police assistance.
Other responding units managed to locate the suspect within a neighboring apartment unit. At about 4:28 a.m., the witness positively identified the suspect as Stanis Defang who was arrested and transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
