ISAAC Aguon joined the list of the elite players of the Marianas Golf Association when he notched the June Ace of the Month title Sunday at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course.
Ron Benavente topped the tournament, but he had already secured the Ace title in May. Aguon, who had the second best score, was thus named the June Ace.
Placement was Benavente’s strength as was seen on the front nine as he made three bogeys while closing the six other holes with pars to end with a gross score of 39. The back nine proved to be tougher for Benavente as he recorded double bogeys, but he maintained enough efficiency with four pars for a gross total of 83, 13-over par which landed him in the top five. However, with a handicap of 24, his net score was 59.
Aguon also played well, sinking a birdie on the front nine and followed through on the back nine with three more for a gross total of 76. With a handicap of 15, his net score was 61.
Finishing third was Amier Younis who shot a pair of birdies on the front and back nines to accumulate a gross total of 78. With a 12 handicap, his net score was 66.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story erroneously stated that Ron Benavente won the June Ace title.
