After two months of personal leave in Hawaii, Apatang returned to Saipan on Saturday.
He said he underwent a three-hour procedure after the plane landed at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.
There was no VIP treatment, he said, adding that he was treated like an ordinary passenger.
“They are very professional,” he said, referring to the Covid-19 team as he expressed appreciation to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios for creating the task force.
From the tarmac, he said all passengers were escorted to a waiting bus that transported them to the Pacific Islands Club, a designated quarantine area.
Immediately upon arrival at the hotel they were brought to a room where Covid-19 testing was conducted for every passenger, the mayor said.
“The operation was very smooth,” he added.
Apatang said community members should take advantage of the free testing provided by the CNMI government.
“The test will protect our family from the deadly virus,” he added.
At the mayor’s office, he said social distancing rules will continue to be observed and everyone must wear face masks.
He said he will ask the Covid-19 Task Force to test all his staff members.
