THE baseball field at Oleai Sports Complex, which is administered by the Northern Marianas Sports Association, has been burglarized and vandalized over the weekend, according to facility supervisor Nathan Guerrero.

“On Monday morning, one of our staff was making his way to the container where we store our equipment to maintain the facility when he noticed that the door of the container was ajar. The padlock was broken and was on the ground and he saw that some of our equipment was missing,” Guerrero said.

He said they also tried to start the riding mower but were unsuccessful, because the battery was dead.

Guerrero said they immediately called the Department of Public Safety and reported the incident.

According to the facility supervisor, the responding police officers conducted an investigation.

“We did not have any events this weekend, so we think the burglary and vandalism happened over the weekend. No one was here,” Guerrero said.

“NMSA has been improving the facility for the community to enjoy and for their safety. The equipment stolen is used for maintaining the facility,” he added.

As for the baseball field, its bleachers, walkways, and walls were spray-painted with graffiti, Guerrero said.

“We believe it’s the same perps,” he added.

If you have any information about this incident or the people involved, call 911 or the Crime Stoppers hotline at (670) 234-7272.
