Kilili announces 2020 Congressional Art Competition

“Since 2009, Northern Marianas students have had their artwork displayed in the art competition’s annual exhibits for millions to see,” Congressman Sablan said, “I hope that as participants create their art pieces, they also discover something new about themselves and take pride in their work.”

Sablan, along with Rep. Warren Davidson of Ohio’s 8th district, is this year’s chairman for the national competition.

The art competition is free and open to all high school students. Students have until Friday, April 24, 2020, at 5 p.m. to submit their artwork to the congressional office in Saipan, Tinian, or Rota.

Artwork submissions must be two-dimensional. Eligible artwork includes paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media art, computer-generated art, and photography.

This year’s submissions will be judged based on originality, technical difficulty, creativity, communication, effectiveness, and overall appearance. A panel of local artists will select the winning entry.

Contest guidelines and student release forms are available at https://sablan.house.gov/serving-you/art-competition.
