In February, she added, there are five tour guides attending the certification class at Northern Marianas College.
“The class is held on an ‘[as needed]’ basis,” she said, adding that MVA continues to remind tour companies to ensure that their personnel enroll in the certification program.
This year, she said, MVA will collaborate with the Bureau of Coastal and Environmental Quality to develop a class for marine sports, which will include cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Han said MVA may also propose the imposition of a fine on illegal tour guides caught conducting tours on island.
Under current law, she said a violator’s certification may be revoked.
“There has to be a fine system in place,” she added.
