Store cashiers interviewed by Variety said there has been no advisories or notices from their suppliers regarding shortages or a delay in shipment.

A Tinian resident told Variety that a rumor of supply shortage broke out there on Saturday after some individuals each bought more than one bag of rice.

“People assumed something was going on,” the resident added.

Customs, for its part, said it continues to facilitate trade at all ports of entry by conducting clearance on all ocean vessels, which include assessment of manifests and all documents on arriving vessels and cargoes.

“Customs does not determine when shipments arrive; containers are processed only upon arrival. The current flow of arriving shipping containers and loose cargoes remains steady,” the customs office also said in a statement.
