Apatang thanks evangelist for typhoon relief assistance

Graham, the son of America’s most influential evangelist, the late Billy Graham, is also president and chief executive officer of Samaritan’s Purse, which provided “great assistance” to the victims of Super Typhoon Yutu on Saipan and Tinian in Oct. 2018.

Apatang noted that Samaritan’s Purse flew in relief supplies, shelter materials and even generators to the typhoon-battered islands, and transported to the U.S. an animal from the Saipan Zoo, which was destroyed by Yutu.

The mayor said Franklin Graham personally handed him a Bible signed by the evangelist.

He said they also talked about Graham’s father-in-law who was among the U.S. Marines who saw action on Saipan during the war.

“We are really honored to have him and his group on island,” the mayor said, as he thanked Franklin Graham and his organization for their kindness to the people of the CNMI.
