Aguon said they collected “lots of party leftovers such as bottles and cans.”
On Dec. 25 and 26, he said, they collected 1,800 pounds of trash while on Jan. 1 and 2, they gathered 2,080 pounds of trash.
Aguon said many beach goers are now cleaning up after their parties and are disposing their waste in trash bins.
“There are only a few who are still leaving their trash behind or throwing it into the bushes,” he added.
Alexander said he joined the beach cleanup activities because he was motivated by Aguon’s “vigor” in serving the community.
Like Aguon, Alexander also works for the Division of Parks and Recreation of the Department of Public Works.
“Whenever we have free time, we clean up the beaches,” Alexander said, adding that he will also ask his children to be volunteers for the environment.
“All of us should take care of our island,” he added.
