Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, in a memorandum on Tuesday, authorized non-critical employees of the government to go on administrative leave on Jan. 2.
The governor said he and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios are also grateful to all the government employees for their hard work and service.
“While 2019 was a challenging one for all of us in the midst of our recovery, we appreciate your sacrifices, strength and resiliency,” Torres added.
“In celebration of the New Year and in recognizing the hard work and accomplishments we have made in this last year, I am hereby authorizing non-critical employees of the commonwealth government to take administrative leave on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020,” he said.
“As we begin a new year, let us renew our bonds with one another and remind ourselves that we are one family working together to build a more prosperous Marianas,” he added.
In an interview, Speaker Blas Jonathan Attao said for their administrative leave, the Legislature’s employees were asked to choose between Jan. 2 and 3.
The employees chose to go on leave Thursday, and report for work today, Friday, he added.
