Career pathways

Students signed up for the following courses so that they will be career-ready after high school graduation: construction labor, maritime and entrepreneurship.

Four graduates are pursuing construction-laborer careers after completing  NMTech’s Construction Program. They are Xavier Sumor, Nicole Bauleong, Taisei Desebel and Trevon Lieto.

Five graduates are ready to be deployed as merchant marine crew and are certified by the Western Pacific Mariners Academy. They are Anita Perez, Tristan Manglona, Simkap Wabol, Canfrancia Fitial, and Landon Delos Reyes.

“Being a mariner is a calling. They knew it. They were drawn by the call of the sea,” said Capt. Michael Bacher of the Western Pacific Mariners Academy.

Daok Principal Tudela and  PSS Career, Technical and Education Program Director Dr. Jessica B. Taylor said the graduates who completed the entrepreneurship program are Devin Aldan and Serafin Amirez.

Transformation

Board of Education Chairman Antonio L. Borja described the academic success of the Da’ok Academy graduates as a “transformation.”

“We are inspirated by your journey and excited for your bright future,” he said. “This marks a significant milestone of your remarkable journey. Like Sharks [the academy’s mascot], you’ve navigated through turbulent waters with courage and resilience, demonstrating that your past does not define your future.”

Borja added, “You have transformed challenges into stepping stones, a testament to your strength and the tenacity of the Shark spirit.”

Commissioner of Education Dr. Alfred B. Ada told the graduates that they are “ready to make your own imprint.”

Noting the “amazing stories of success” of the graduates as they now pursue higher education, a vocation, join the military or the workforce, he said “it reaffirms my believe that our future is in very good hands.”

“We look forward to seeing where your adventures will take you, and how each of you will make a difference. From the bottom of my heart, well done Class of 2023!” Ada said.

School Principal Tudela, for her part, said: “As the future of our Marianas, continue to represent and share your cultural heritage, reach your highest potential goals, honor and practice respect, and continue learning each day and participating in any community-service, learning opportunities, even if you have to create that opportunity for yourself and others.”
