AT a Rotary Club of Saipan meeting on July 18 at Crowne Plaza, former Rep. William S. Torres, consultant to the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council, said it is planning to construct a playground not far from the post office in Chalan Kanoa.

“The municipal council is focused on providing this kind of facility to the children of Chalan Kanoa, who practically do not have any facilities for [after-school activities],” Torres said.

He said there are two potential sites for the playground. One is in between Joaquin Kiyu Avenue and Doctor Torres Drive, south of a parking lot and adjacent to the Chalan Kanoa Leadership Memorial Kiosku.

The other potential location is on the lot next to the post office, which is also the site of the current Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council building.

Torres said the current plan includes providing internet capabilities at the playground as well as solar panels that double as overhead cover for the facility. He  said the playground will be gated for the safety of the children.
