HYATT Regency Saipan participated in an islandwide cleanup on April 22 to show that it cares for the island.

“Over the past 65 years, care has been at the heart of everything that we do at Hyatt,” the hotel’s general manager Simon Graf told Variety in an interview.

“As our world evolves and new challenges emerge, we have advanced our global Environmental, Social and Governance strategy through our World of Care platform. Deeply embedded across all areas of our business, World of Care brings Hyatt’s purpose of care through our actions in advancing care for the planet, people and responsible business,” he added.

Graf believes everyone should have a part in taking care of the community where one belongs.

“Everyone plays a role in caring for our planet so that we can all benefit from clean air, water, and resources. In many cases, simple daily behaviors such as turning off lights and faucets can add up to make a big difference for our children’s future,” he said.

During the islandwide cleanup on April 22, Hyatt’s 30 volunteers filled up 15  trash bags with litter that they collected at Micro Beach and American Memorial Park.

The trash was handed to the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality for proper disposal.

Graf is encouraging community members to be responsible in disposing of their trash and taking good care of their natural resources.

“Our little activity on Micro Beach and neighboring American Memorial Park made an impact and illustrates the rubbish our community leaves behind each weekend,” he said. “Earth Day has many other ways to celebrate these efforts but also demonstrates human care toward our future generations.”

He said Hyatt Regency Saipan strives to give back to the community and to Mother Earth by implementing operational changes within the hotel that benefit the environment.

“Our responsibilities are not limited to animal welfare, renewable energy certifications, guest bathroom amenities, tracking waste, waste prevention and diversion efforts, establishing hydration stations, implementing paper and wood-based products, plastic reduction and product alternatives, responsible sourcing, sustainable seafood and setting up other environmental policies,” Graf said.

Hyatt also partners with various government agencies and non-government groups to strengthen ongoing environmental protection and conservation efforts, he added.

He said Hyatt Regency Saipan is also in constant partnership with the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance when it comes to  tree planting and garbage collection.

“We also commit to community voluntary work that does not use machines emitting harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere,” the hotel’s marketing and communications manager Bea O’Malley said.

Hyatt Regency Saipan will always take part in community activities as part of its commitment of love and care for the island, Graf said.
