OHAS Boulangerie & Café of E-Land held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 29, and a grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The bakery-café is on Orchid Street in Garapan, north of Joeten Garapan, and adjacent to Garapan Elementary School.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, E-Land CEO Brian Shin welcomed special guests from the community, including Lt. Governor David Apatang and lawmakers.
“This is a new chapter, a new journey for our company,” Shin said. “We landed in the CNMI with the dream of becoming a key member of the community and to grow together with it. Having this bakery in Garapan is one step closer toward our dream. We’re very excited to have our footprints in the Garapan area finally, not just north and south but now in the middle too.”
E-Land owns and operates Kensington Hotel, Pacific Islands Club and Coral Ocean Resort Saipan.
Shin said the “journey” to opening Ohas Boulangerie & Café started after local guests told him that Kensington Hotel in San Roque, site of the first Ohas Café, was “too far.”
“I didn’t realize how far we are until I started living here and now I feel that we are far,” he said in jest.
“After a few months of planning, here we are. We made your wish into reality,” Shin added.
He hopes that the café adds to the amenities that tourists can enjoy on Saipan.
“Revitalization is essential to our success,” Shin said, referring to the move to the Garapan tourism district. “Our tourists need to feel welcome and need to find something to do and places to go. We believe this small bakery will add up to the cause.”
Kensington Hotel Food and Beverage Director Amy Cho said Ohas Boulangerie & Café will be “French, Fresh, and Fit.”
Boulangerie is the French word for bakery, and Cho said what is offered in the Garapan café will be from France.
