SENATOR Celina R. Babauta of Saipan on Friday appointed Senate Floor Leader Corina L. Magofna, also from Saipan, to the Senate Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations to fill the seat vacated by Rota Sen. Dennis James Mendiola, who resigned from the EAGI and Judiciary, Government and Law committees.
In a memorandum, Babauta, who chairs the EAGI and JGL committees, informed Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero that “in the interest of moving forward with important Senate matters,” she was appointing Magofna to the EAGI committee.
Babauta also told the Senate president that Magofna’s “expressed willingness to serve on the EAGI committee is greatly appreciated.”
Babauta said she has also appointed Tinian Sen. Francisco Q. Cruz to the JGL committee, “pending his acceptance.”
Babauta said she was still waiting for Cruz’s response to her appointment letter.
Mendiola resigned from the JGL and EAGI committees last week “to advocate for equal representation” on the two committees, which did not have members from Tinian.
