COMMONWEALTH Ports Authority Deputy Director Edward Mendiola has resigned.
Mendiola, who has been with CPA for 28 years, tendered his resignation in the last week of June, CPA Board Chairwoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds said.
Mendiola’s resignation took effect on June 30, 2023, according to CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio.
King-Hinds said she was sad that Mendiola resigned. She noted that Mendiola had served CPA for close to three decades. He was the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport manager before he was promoted to the deputy director’s position.
But King-Hinds said she understands that Mendiola needs a break. He is a new grandfather and wants to spend time with his family, she added.
King-Hinds said Mendiola was very instrumental in the undertakings that CPA has committed to in terms of improving its facilities, among other things.
She also noted the institutional knowledge that will be lost because of Mendiola’s departure.
“He will be missed, and I wish him very well. He always has a home in CPA. He feels like he needs to take a break at this point, but I hope that sometime in the future he would consider coming back and being part of the family. But he is always part of the family,” she said.
In May, CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio submitted his own resignation to the board, initially effective May 1, 2023. But the board asked him to stay until CPA addresses single audit compliance issues. His resignation will now take effect on Aug. 1, 2023.
