BASED on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, Typhoon Mawar continues to move toward the Marianas.
As of 1 p.m., Mawar was
about 340 miles southeast of Guam;
about 365 miles south-southeast of Rota;
about 410 miles south-southeast of Tinian; and
about 415 miles south-southeast of Saipan.
Maximum sustained winds: 100 mph
Present movement: north-northwest, 335 degrees at 9 mph.
Typhoon warning remains in effect for Guam and Rota. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours, with typhoon force winds expected by Wednesday morning.
Tropical storm warning is in effect for Saipan and Tinian. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours. Typhoon watch remains in effect for Saipan and Tinian. Typhoon force winds are possible if Mawar makes a turn toward the north.
The latest track forecast shows a westward bend in the vicinity of the Marianas with passage near or over Guam and Rota.
Mawar is forecast to continue intensifying. Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 40 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 105 miles.
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has maintained Typhoon Condition II for Rota and Tropical Storm Condition II for Saipan and Tinian.
Typhoon Condition II means that damaging winds of 39 mph or more are possible tomorrow, and typhoon force winds of 74 mph or greater are possible Tuesday night through Thursday morning.
Tropical Storm Condition II means that damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours.
