Conditions are gradually deteriorating across Guam

(NWS) — Winds are steadily increasing and it is getting louder outside. Doors & shutters are rattling. Thus far at the NWS, we’ve seen peak winds of 53 mph with gusts to 74 mph. On Saipan, Wireless Ridge has clocked in with winds of 46 mph with gusts to 51 mph.

The eye of TY Mawar has nudged a little farther north of the forecast track, this will have implications on location-based wind directions and coastal flooding potential. Guam observations show northerly to northwesterly winds. This will bring increasing surf and wave run up to northern and western shores while easing the severity of conditions along eastern and southern shores.

Take note of the radar reflectivity in the right image. Areas that will be south of the eye of Mawar should expect torrential rains and long-duration typhoon force winds.
