Registered sex offender arrested for molesting minor

REGISTERED sex offender Thomas Aguon Aldan, 65, is accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl.

Aldan appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho during a bail hearing on Monday.

Judge Camacho imposed a $30,000 cash bail on Aldan who was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

At the hearing, Aldan was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

After the hearing, Aldan was remanded to the custody of Corrections and was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on July 17 at 10 a.m. and on July 24 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.

According to the complaint, on July 6 at 4:35 p.m., a minor girl called the police to report that she was sexually assaulted by Aldan.

Prior to the incident, the minor was at her aunt’s house and had to be dropped back home by her other aunt’s common-law husband, who was Aldan, because her aunt was sleeping.

On the drive home, instead of turning into her residence, the minor said Aldan turned into another road and asked the minor to hug and kiss him.

She said Aldan inappropriately touched her and tried to kiss her.

He also told her to “keep this as a secret,” she added.

But when she got home, she immediately told her mother what had happened.

According to court documents, Aldan is a Tier 3 registered sex offender who was convicted on June 10, 2006, for sexual abuse of a minor.
