THE inaugural Marianas Skate Series has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 10, at Sugar King Park.
“The typhoon, the cleanup, and the erratic weather this week played a major role in postponing the event. Cleanup efforts and safety are a priority concern of the Marianas Surf Skate League,” said its chairman, Ed Manibusan.
“Also, valuable practice time for the competitors was affected this past week. We want to give our competitors the best chance to practice going into this event so they can really showcase their skills,” he added.
Although the event has been pushed back, the start times are still the same with the Youth Clinic kicking off at 9 a.m. followed by the Jam Session at 11 a.m., and the Expert Division event at 1:30 p.m.
“So far, we have 10 of the best skaters in the CNMI competing in the Expert Division. They range in age from 17 to 30 years old. It will be an exciting competition,” Manibusan added.
There will be two rounds in the Olympic street skate format called 2/5/3 while the semifinal round will pit all the skaters against each other. The top four will then compete in the final round for the championship.
“We are opening the registration deadline up to one hour before the scheduled competition,” Manibusan said. “So, if you want to test your skills against the CNMI’s best, there is still time to register.”
