GOLD’S Gym held a back-to-back Zumba “marathon” at the multi-purpose center on Saturday led by instructor Shellan Sarmiento who had to leave the CNMI in compliance with the federal “touchback” rule.
Since 2016, Sarmiento had been a Gold’s Gym instructor of Zumba, a dance-based fitness program, which, she said, “has taken the world by storm, and has more to offer than just a workout.”
She said while Zumba’s primary goal is to promote physical fitness, its objectives “extend beyond the confines of a gym or dance studio.”
Sarmiento said Zumba helps participants achieve their fitness goals while having a blast doing it. “It offers a dynamic alternative to traditional exercise routines, making it accessible and enjoyable for people of all fitness levels. One of the unique aspects of Zumba is its emphasis on enjoyment,” she added.
She said Zumba encourages participants to let loose and have fun. “This proves that Zumba is not only for people who can dance but for everybody of all ages. This enjoyment factor makes fitness a sustainable part of one’s lifestyle,” she added.
Sarmiento led close to 100 Zumba dancers on Saturday.
She said her Gold’s Gym family “came up with the idea of bringing members, friends and Zumba enthusiasts together for a memorable farewell filled with music, dance, and joy.”
