HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was charged in connection to a burglary at the Public Defender Service Corp.’s office, as well as several other crimes reported over the last month.
Jedidiah James Santos was charged with burglary as a second-degree felony after the Guam Police Department received reports that the Public Defender Service Corp.’s office in Sinajana was broken into on Sept. 12.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed Tuesday, an employee told officers the office was last secured the day before at 5 p.m. Later, it was discovered an unknown person “rummaged through several offices and desks and that cash and personal property belonging to PDSC employees were stolen,” the charging documents stated.
About $1,127 worth of cash and items were reportedly taken, according to court documents.
Santos was also charged in connection to a report from a woman who told police her car had been broken into Sept. 24, and her backpack was gone. The woman later learned about $1,200 was taken from her debit card and used at gas stations in Hågat, Piti and Sinajana.
In the following days, police visited the gas station and viewed surveillance footage, which showed a man in a black hoodie and black pants placing items in a trash can between gas pumps before fueling a car. Additionally, the suspect was seen using a debit card to make purchases at the gas stations.
An officer who was reviewing the footage identified Santos as the suspect based on previous interactions, according to the complaint.
On Sept. 30, police received a complaint of a Tamuning real estate office being burglarized and a company vehicle that was missing. Later that same day, the car was found in Dededo. Witnesses reported seeing Santos driving the car.
Santos, in addition to burglary, was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle as a second-degree felony, identity theft and two counts of theft as third-degree felonies and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle as a misdemeanor.
