TEAM Legends earned their first win in the 2023 Pacific Saipan Promo Invitational Basketball League on Friday by trouncing Bourbon Bar & Café, 68-52, at the Gualo Rai basketball court.
Team Legends established control early. For each successful stop, they scored on the other end and were led by Jimboy Tabora and Dick Tibayan with five and seven points, respectively, to seize a double-digit lead, 22-12.
The lead grew larger in the second quarter as Bourbon Bar & Café failed to get out of the gutter, scoring six team points only while Team Legends’ Jun Tabora and Jimboy Tabora delivered baskets to end the halftime with a comfortable lead, 35-18.
In the third canto, Bourbon Bar & Café started to find their rhythm with more shots finding the bottom of the net. However, Team Legends had an answer on the other end with Jimboy Tabora and Arnexe Rosario at the frontline to remain ahead, 50-35.
Bourbon Bar & Café looked for a quick comeback with a handful of three-pointers in the fourth and final quarter, but they could not stop Team Legends’ onslaught and had to accept defeat, 52-68.
Maplas vs Alliana’s
Maplas now sits at the top of the food chain after bagging their second straight win by outlasting Alliana’s, 67-60.
Maplas, whose strong start was the biggest factor in their victory, had many scorers to rely on. These included Gerald Aniciete and Mars Tagle who scored four points each while teammate Nefre Austria added five points to give their team the lead in the first quarter, 17-12.
Alliana’s tried to catch up with Alcantara and Jose Broncano highlighting the second period while teammates Richard Mendoza and JM Armas led the second half with consistent play.
But Maplas continued to deliver with Ronald Rueda alone scoring 15 points in the second half to secure the win, 67-60.
