HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Renovations are steadily progressing for the apartment facility in Anigua being turned into a homeless shelter and resources site, according to Robert San Agustin, the director of the Office of Homelessness Assistance and Poverty Prevention.
“I’m thinking that with completion of renovation, inspection and occupancy permits still needing to be done, I would be shooting to begin operations at the turn of the year,” San Agustin told The Guam Daily Post on Friday.
The Guam National Guard is working to renovate the 18-unit facility.
Typhoon Mawar’s arrival in late May created some delays, as guard members were called to work on typhoon response. San Agustin said the typhoon also affected the receipt of some materials.
During Thursday’s meeting of the Interagency Council for Coordinating Homelessness Programs and OHAPP, San Agustin said the facility had been secured for Typhoon Bolaven, which came to pass earlier in the week.
“Last time I went, the aircons were being installed, and the appliances were there and they were also being installed in the units. I think the work is where it needs to be, given some little delay with the storm prep. They’re back to it,” San Agustin said Thursday.
On Friday, San Agustin confirmed that the facility did not sustain any damage from Bolaven, nor would there be any significant delays due to that storm.
