Philippine global youth group to host 12th Virtual International Conference on South China (West Philippine) Sea

(NYMWPS) — In celebration of the 8th founding anniversary of the National Youth Movement for the West Philippine Sea, a peaceful, non-partisan and transglobal organization that advocates for the preservation of Philippine sovereignty and territorial integrity, would like to invite the public to their 12th Virtual International Conference on South China (West Philippine) Sea which will be held via Zoom webinar on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Manila time, or 12 noon to 3 p.m. Chamorro Standard Time.

Guam and Saipan resident Dr. Celia Lamkin, founder and global chairperson of the organization and the organizer of the conference, said its theme is, “Seven Years After Arbitral Award: Peace, Economy, Stability, and Security in the South China (West Philippine) Sea and the World.”

Antonio T. Carpio, retired senior associate justice  of the Supreme Court of the Philippines will be the guest speaker.

The other speakers are:

• Attorney Loida Nicolas Lewis, a prominent Filipino-American community and global leader, chairperson of U.S. Filipinos for Good Governance, a philanthropist, businesswoman, former immigration lawyer and author from New York City.

• Capt. Carl O. Schuster, USN (Ret.), professor, Hawaii Pacific University’s Diplomacy and Military Science Program; defense consultant; former director of operations, Joint Intelligence Center U.S. Pacific Command, Honolulu, Hawaii.

• Dr. Carlyle A. Thayer, Ph.D., emeritus professor, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Australian Defense Force Academy, University of New South Wales of Canberra, Australia.

• Col. Ray Powell, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), director, SeaLight at Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation, Stanford University of Palo Alto, California.

• Pooja Bhatt, Ph.D., consultant, Ministry of External Affairs of India; researcher and analyst of International Relations and Security Studies, New Delhi, India.

• Tran Thi Mong Tuyen, Ph.D. candidate at National Cheng Kung University and a non-resident fellow at Pacific Forum USA in Taipei, Taiwan.

•  Kumari Mansi, Ph.D., Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan; 2023 Fellow at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, and Assistant Professor at Amity University in Haryana, India.

• Nguyen The Phuong, Ph.D. candidate in Maritime Securities at the University of  New South Wales, Canberra, Australia, from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

• Professor Haruko Satoh, co-director of IAFOR Research  Center at Osaka School of International Public Policy in Osaka University,  Osaka, Japan.

• Su Wai Mon, Ph.D., senior lecturer, Faculty of Law; associate member, Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences, University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During the conference, there will be a special tribute to the late Ambassador Albert F. del Rosario, former secretary of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.
