IN late August, the CNMI Department of Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Unit or BPC completed training conducted by the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. This training focused on unemployment insurance fraud investigation and processing.
CNMI DOL continues to be committed to preserving the integrity of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. Acquiring and completing training offered by specialists equips BPC’s staff with the knowledge, techniques and tools available to identify and address fraudulent claims.
Examples of fraud that were covered in this training include:
• Providing false information or withholding information
• Deliberately reporting incorrect or zero wages
• Failing to report ALL gross earnings during the week in which they are earned
• Filing a claim under another person’s name, Social Security number, and/or employment information without their knowledge or consent
• Filing a claim for someone who is incarcerated
If you know or suspect someone is committing fraud, contact the BPC unit at (670) 989-9095, (670) 322-9943, 9944 or email bpc.cnmidol@gmail.com/.
