Miss Marianas Teen prepares for Chicago

The 16 year-old Marianas High School junior is preparing for the 2008 Miss Teen International Pageant in Chicago scheduled for July 24-26 with close to 60 delegates from all over the U.S., England and India competing for the crown.

Thanks to Northwest Airlines, St. Clair will be leaving this Saturday and will have about three weeks to prepare for the international pageant while on the mainland.

“I am really excited and ready to do my very best in representing our islands,” said St. Clair. “I have been training hard at Gold Gym’s Saipan and working on my platform by doing community activities,” she said.

St. Clair’s platform as the reigning Miss Marianas Teen is to raise awareness and promote prevention of family violence, particularly focusing on child abuse and neglect. “I have been working with our Division of Youth Services. They uphold the well-being of children, youth, families, and the community as a whole,” said St. Clair.

“At the DYS Emergency Shelter, I started working on a mural that focuses on encouragement and peace, and I would like to become a mentor for teens at their support group meetings, and design and manage a landscaping project,” she said.

St. Clair has also raised close to $500 for the children suffering abuse and neglect in Kenya, Africa by organizing an donor drive at Price Costco for two weekends assisted by Rose Smith, the founder of Empty Vessel Ministries.

“We were very pleased with the support, as it only takes a $1 a day to help one child in Kenya,” said St. Clair.

St. Clair also visits Little Darling Daycare Centers and enjoys spending time with the young children and sharing positive messages of self-esteem and encouragement.

Stellar Marianas, the islands’ non-profit pageant and talent group, would like to thank the generous sponsors of the 2008 Miss Marianas Teen Pageant who assisted St. Clair with the international pageant’s requirements.

Northwest Airlines gave St. Clair a round trip ticket from Saipan to Chicago and the Marianas Visitors Authority gave beach bags, stickers and maps for St. Clair to give to the delegates to help promote the CNMI.

Gold’s Gym Personal Fitness Instructor Brett Nelson created a customized fitness program with Apex to help St. Clair reach her fitness goals for the pageant.

Pena House Boutique assisted with the outfits for the personal interview, fun fashion and evening gown competition, Sporticca gave her shoes for the physical fitness competition, and Marianas Pacific Distributors gave her Ponds, Dove and Suave beauty products.

Younis Art Studio, Inc. gave her a one year subscription of Marianas Variety News & Views to keep her abreast of current issues and conducted a public speaking and media interview training with journalists Moneth Deposa and Raymond Martinez.

PTI gave her a pink Razr cellphone to keep in touch while training for the international competition.

Ren Ren Santos of Genoveva’s Hair Power has also assisted St. Clair in learning the proper techniques of make-up application and hair styling.

“At the Miss Teen International, majority of the delegates will be doing their own hair and make-up so this is a skill she needs to learn in order to be prepared for competition,” said Stellar Marianas National Director Neda Camacho.

Stellar Marianas provided a four-piece luggage set for St. Clair, a roundtrip ticket for her required official chaperone, her mom Katherine Wheeler, competition outfits and accessories, autograph cards, a digital camera, charter fee, hotel, transportation and related expenses.

“We would also like to thank Palms Resort Saipan, Triple J Motors, Shell Marianas, DFS Galleria, Island Florals & Gifts, MHS Productions and Aquarius Beach Towers for their continual support and generosity,” said Camacho.

“We wish her all the very best of luck and for the CNMI to shine on an international stage through her hard work and determination. Thank you to her family and friends for their support and assistance,” she said. “Let’s all celebrate beauty and celebrate Marianas.”
