Reports said that Echang was injured when the unit’s vehicle truck struck an improvised explosive device earlier this week.
Two Guam soldiers however were killed during the same incident.
Remengesau said Echang lives in Guam but his mother is staying in Palau.
He added that he received reports that Echang is now recuperating from his injuries.
Echang, 25 is going to be transferred to the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.
Echang is a member of the 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry that deployed to Afghanistan in January.
The incident occurred on July 10 in Afghanistan.
