Koblerville experienced water service interruption from Friday to Monday.
The problem was caused by a bearing and shaft breakdown in Maui 1 booster pump.
“Our sincerest apologies for leaving them without water,” Megarr said in an interview.
He said the villages can expect CUC water/sewer division to improve its services as it continues to address water issues affecting the island.
He reminded the public that there are 140 wells and about 17 booster pumps that CUC is trying to maintain, monitor and revitalize.
CUC’s water/sewer crew cannot notify the public before water service is interrupted in a particular area because they cannot tell when the water field facilities will experience problems, he said.
The problem with the bearing and shaft of the Maui 1 booster pump was immediately identified, Megarr stated.
However, he added, they had difficulty sourcing the exact and correct replacement parts because each mechanical part of the booster pumps on island has a distinct configuration.
He said the booster pump now has a new bearing and shaft.
Koblerville’s water service is back to normal, he said, adding that they plan to construct a back-up facility for the Maui 1 booster pump to sustain the water service in the village.
