Melaitau declares to run for Ngiwal’s governorship

According to Melaitau, his decision to run for the office of the governor has been put off during previous state elections, despite promptings of supports, due to timing and outmost reverence to his duties and family obligations.  Moreover, he said, his decision to run for the office next month has been thought over; and consultations with family members and supporters – through which he received their blessings – have confirmed his final decision.  He will run for the office on August 12, 2008.Melaitau coincidently announced his final decision on Wednesday, July 09 – symbolically indicative of the state’s “numbers”: 7-9.“I wanted to wish the people of the Ngiwal a happy National Constitutional Day and at the same time declare my commitment of service to Ngiwal State and her people and ask for their blessings in my bid for the office of the governor,” Melaitau said.Melaitau further added that he believes that citizens of the state should be informed of all the decisions – be it political, organizational, or cultural – that directly or indirectly affects their lives.  Moreover, he said, citizens should have a say and be allowed to choose and decide on what comes in and goes out of the state.“If elected governor, I will push for a self-sustaining economy for the state, which would ensure that every household in Ngiwal would be beneficiaries,” he stated.Melaitau has served as a legislator for Ngiwal State Government since 1996.  He hopes to continue serving his people as the next Ngiwal State governor.
