Saures, 36, had been practicing regularly with Trench Tech—Purebred Saipan promoter, Cuki Alvarez, rigidly enhancing his own style of MMA.
Started out in Dragon Tribe three years ago, Kill Bill is a kind of go-getter guy that nobody can stop him from pursuing what he thinks will make him a better fighter both outside and inside the cage.
He recalled that when the Trench Warz 2 was coming up, he broke into Trench Tech Gym and approached Alvarez telling him he wanted to fight and was willing to be matched with anybody in the cage.
Alvarez who was at that time, scouting for more fighters looked at him and could just tell himself “I like this guy.”
And that’s how he got the chance to get his first fight. After six months training, he gave Herman “The Big Herm” Villagomez a big “bear hug” and defeated him via submission.
Although he’s now trying to master both stand up and ground fight, Kill Bill feels he is best in stand up fight which from the very start he came to know about MMA, was his idea of taking the upper ground.
Saures, a heavy equipment operator of Hawaiian Rock was not aware of a local MMA until he saw the Trench Warz 1in the tape which his family watched a month after the actual event.
“When I got home from work that day, my family was watching the Trench Warz in the tape. And when I joined and kept watching, it kinda stirred my interest,” he recalled.
A few days later, he approached Dragon Tribe’s Pete Guerrero who happens to be his neighbor.
Guerrero who himself had a good back round in martial arts when he started MMA, tool Kill Bill in. He registered him for jujitsu lesson.
Kill Bill actually had his own back round in martial arts. He said he studied Aikido back in 1992 but it lasted only six months because his Japanese instructor left for Japan.
So when he started learning the jujitsu, it was easy for him since many moves are somehow similar with aikido.
“I learned the jujitsu basically to defend myself from ground attack,” Kill Bill said adding that when his opponents took him to ground fight, he had always managed to bring the fight back to stand up.
He won his fight in the Trench Warz 3 that way as he put down Suicide Cliff Masga and beat him via referee stoppage. That was among his five wins of his nine fights.
Kill Bill said he is also the kind of guy who would take every lesson so seriously.
Every time he’s practicing, his fight in Trench Warz 5 always vividly flashed in his mind. He recalled that G-Shock George knocked the wind out of him with a knee in the diaphragm.
Since then, he always keeps his sternum as close as possible and gathers as much stamina as he could prior to the fight.
Knowing your own weakness is exactly how you start to defend yourself and eventually win the fight.
